Offline mode - what works without a connection
Family life doesn’t pause for dead spots, so Quok doesn’t either. Both the mobile app and the web app are built to work offline and clean up after themselves when the connection returns.
What works offline
Section titled “What works offline”Reading: your calendar, lists, and members stay available from the device’s local copy - the coming week’s events and all your lists are kept ready, plus anything you’ve looked at recently. Glance at today’s schedule on the underground exactly as if you were online.
Writing: create, edit, check off, delete - events and list items both. Changes apply on your screen instantly and queue on the device; you’ll see the offline indicator (what it looks like) with a count of changes waiting.
What needs a connection
Section titled “What needs a connection”- Signing in - magic links and the other sign-in methods are online-only. Already signed in? You stay signed in; offline only blocks new sign-ins.
- Inviting and joining - invitations are delivered and accepted through the server.
- Photos - uploading profile or family photos waits for a connection.
- Notifications to others - your partner learns about the event you added when it actually syncs.
- AI features - a connected assistant talks to Quok’s servers, not to your phone.
When the connection returns
Section titled “When the connection returns”Queued changes send automatically, in order - no button to press. A change made mid-tunnel can’t be lost or duplicated, even if the connection drops again mid-send.
Two edge cases, handled predictably:
- You and your partner edited the same thing while apart? The most recent save wins, and every device converges on it - no duplicates, no half-merged events.
- A queued change the server won’t accept (say, your permissions changed in the meantime) is dropped, and the app returns to what the server has.
Honest limits
Section titled “Honest limits”- Offline works per device: each device serves what it has seen. A brand-new phone needs one good sync before it’s useful on a plane.
- The queue holds 50 changes per device - beyond that, Quok asks you to reconnect before piling on more. Weeks of offline planning isn’t the design goal; surviving flights, basements, and bad hotel Wi-Fi is.
- Signing out clears the device’s local copy - and discards any unsent changes, after a warning.
