Why am I not getting notifications?
Work through this list from the top - it’s ordered by how often each one turns out to be the culprit.
1. Check the OS permission
Section titled “1. Check the OS permission”If notifications are off at the system level, nothing else matters.
- iOS: Settings → Notifications → Quok → Allow Notifications
After turning it on, open Quok once so it can re-register your device.
2. Check your Quok preferences
Section titled “2. Check your Quok preferences”In the app: Settings → Notifications. Make sure the channel you’re expecting (mobile push, email, web push) is on, and - for “someone added an item” pings - that the new tasks / new shopping items toggles are on too. Preferences are per person, so check them on your own account.
3. Check quiet hours
Section titled “3. Check quiet hours”Quiet hours delay event reminders until the window ends and skip activity notifications entirely. If reminders keep arriving at odd times or activity pings vanish overnight, this is probably why. Adjust the window in Settings → Notifications.
4. Are you signed in on that device?
Section titled “4. Are you signed in on that device?”Quok can only send push to devices that are signed in. If you signed out (or your session ended), sign back in and the device re-registers automatically.
5. Focus modes and battery savers
Section titled “5. Focus modes and battery savers”Do Not Disturb, Focus, and aggressive battery savers can silence or delay notifications at the OS level - Quok has no say there. Check that Quok is allowed through your Focus setup.
6. Expecting the wrong kind of notification?
Section titled “6. Expecting the wrong kind of notification?”A few things that are easy to mis-expect:
- Reminders aren’t automatic. An event only reminds you if it has reminders set and you’re the creator or an assignee. (How reminders work)
- You never get pinged for your own additions - activity notifications go to the rest of the family.
- “Someone added an item” pings are mobile-only for now; the browser gets event reminders but not activity pings.
7. Reminder emails specifically
Section titled “7. Reminder emails specifically”Check spam for mail from noreply@mail.getquok.com. If you ever clicked unsubscribe in a reminder email, the email channel is off - turn it back on in Settings → Notifications.
Still stuck?
Section titled “Still stuck?”Email support@getquok.com with your device type (for example, iPhone 15, or your web browser) and an example of a notification you expected but didn’t get - the event name and time is perfect. We’ll trace it. (What to include)
