Roles and permissions in a family

Every member of a Quok family has a role. Roles keep things simple: adults run the household, kids take part, and helpers see only what concerns them.

A few things worth spelling out:

  • Organizer is adult plus family settings. Day to day, organizers and adults can do the same things; only the organizer manages the family itself.
  • Kids can add their own events (a football practice, a study session) and check off chores and list items - but they can’t change other people’s plans or restructure lists.
  • Providers see only their slice. A babysitter sees events they’re assigned to, nothing else. Private family events stay private.
  • Private events are visible to the creator, the people assigned, and the adults. Everyone else just doesn’t see them.

The organizer can hand the organizer role to another adult: Members → (member) → Make organizer. The previous organizer becomes an adult. The organizer can’t be removed from the family - transfer the role first if they’re stepping back.

Adults and organizers can remove other members (except the organizer, and except themselves).

Email invitations are for adults, guests, and providers - anyone who should sign in on their own device. Guests and providers can also be added as managed profiles without a login. Kids are always added as managed profiles by an adult - they never need an account. See Invite someone to your family.
