Sharing lists across the family

In some apps you share a list by sending a link. In Quok there’s nothing to send: every list belongs to the family, and everyone in the family sees it the moment it exists.

Shared by design

Create a list and it’s already on your partner’s phone, the kids’ view, and the kitchen iPad - no invitations, no per-list settings, no “did you get my link?”. There are no private lists; the family is the sharing boundary. (Events are different - they do have a private option. Who can see and edit events.)

Nobody outside the family can see your lists, ever - each family’s data is strictly isolated.

Who can do what

Everyone sees every list, and everyone - kids, guests, providers included - can check items off. Shaping the lists is the adults’ job:

So the six-year-old can tick off “pack swim bag” but can’t reorganize the grocery list on the way past. (Roles and permissions)

Live on every screen

Every add, check, and delete syncs to the whole family within a moment or two - fast enough that one of you can add items while the other walks the store. Offline? Both of you keep working; changes merge when you’re back. (Offline mode)

Hear about it, optionally

Quok can send a push notification when someone else adds a task or a shopping item - handy when “it’s on the list” is how your family communicates. Each member controls their own toggles under Settings → Notifications: one for new tasks, one for new shopping items. You’re never notified about your own additions. (Notification preferences)

Divide the work, not the list

Since everyone shares the same lists, “whose job is it” is expressed by assigning items: put a name on a to-do and it’s theirs, with their avatar on the row. (Add, check off, and remove items)
